The Island Cruising Club was formed in 1951 in Salcombe, Devon, by John Baylay. He was joined in the early days by his wife and a small group of friends who funded and organised the acquisition and usage of a fleet of classic yachts. The membership of the club grew to a maximum of around 1,500 sailors in the 1980’s and required the establishment of a dinghy training facility to teach basic sailing skills. The current clubhouse is Egremont, a former Mersey ferry, which has been converted to provide accommodation and refreshments for members and students. In 2011, the Club decided to separate the running and upkeep of Egremont, the dinghy training facility, and the members club into three distinct entities.

Sherford is a small hamlet close to the village of Frogmore. Its focus is the church of St Martin of Tours.

South Allington is a hamlet nestled in an area of outstanding natural beauty, between Start Point and Prawle Point.

It is ideally situated for the beach and scenic coastal walks – the secluded and family-friendly Lannacombe Beach is a mere five minutes drive away.

East Charleton is a small village just outside Kingsbridge on the road to Dartmouth, with views and access down to the Kingsbridge Estuary. There is a small supermarket/petrol station with attached sporting and camping equipment warehouse.

Galmpton is a quiet and small village between Hope Cove and Malborough. In Galmpton there are mostly ‘chocolate-box’ cottages, houses and a small farm surrounded by beautiful green hills. Also there is the local church of Holy Trinity, built in the nineteeth century. There are no pubs or shops in Galmpton but there is a village hall that can be hired out.

There is a path from Hope Cove to Galmpton through fields which has beautiful views of South Devon’s rolling hills.
