As part of the Farming in Protected Landscapes Programme from Defra, South Devon National Landscape (SDNL) has part funded the restoration of the Haha at Butterford House, North Huish, amongst other works leaky dams and a new hedge, to enhance nature and climate.
Butterford is a Domesday site, the present house was completed in 1792; this house was built on the footprint of an earlier 17th century ( possibly 16th century ) house. It has been a mammoth effort by all concerned but the results are splendid. The Haha itself marks the NW boundary of the SDNL.
To showcase the project we are inviting local history groups and other interested parties to visit and hear more about this project on 29th March at either 10.30 or 2.30 . Please see the invitation below, the visit will include a walk on some steep ground and it may be muddy so please wear suitable footwear. No dogs because of livestock in the area.
Please contact Diane Lethbridge, Communications Officer at South Devon National Landscape if you would like to attend, by Friday 28th March, stating whether you will be joining at 10.30 or 2.30.
