    • William was a Farmer and Dairy man he and Sarah had 15 Children one sadly had died by 1911.
      They lived at Rose Cottage Higher Batson
      In 1883 William was a Volunteer in the Devonshire Artillery Volunteer brigade.
      In Kelly's 1893 Directory it lists William as a Carter from Higher Batson.

      The note on the back of the photo attached to the Devonshire Artillery Volunteer Brigade
      No.14 W Murch, Haulier and then it says "Son Married Mrs Heath's Sister".
      Stanley Murch married Ethel May Putt, her sister Agnes Victoria Putt married Robert M Heath.

      The Devon Heritage site gives the following details: 2512 Private John Murch of the 5th (Prince of Wales) Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Mary Ann Murch, Born in Holne in the December Quarter of 1893. Died 22 November 1915 aged 22.
      The John Murch referred to here had no clear connection with Salcombe, nor did his parents, and the inscription on Salcombe War memorial undoubtedly refers to:
      925019 Pte. John Murch, 5th battalion of the Saskatchewan Regt. 1901 census: John aged 7, living at Higher Batson, with his parents William H. Murch , farmer, and his mother Sarah E. Murch. All 7 in the family were born in Salcombe. An Ancestry.com family tree gives further details of his parents : William Henry Murch (1871-1937) and Sarah Elizabeth Steer (1854 -1936) ? lived at Rose Cottage, Batson. . John Murch emigrated to Canada before the war and enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 2 December 1915 at Weyburn, Saskatchewan. His present address was given as Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, occupation famer, date of birth 29 Sept 1893, next of kin William Murch, Salcombe, Lutheran. Missing believed killed on or since 26 July 1918. Location of unit at time of casualty : attack east of Arras. Next of kin William Henry Murch, Higher Batson, Salcombe (In 1936 residing at Resta Bungalow, Onslow Road, Salcombe). John Murch?s name is listed on the Vimy Memorial, Vimy, , Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France, Plot: Final resting place unknown.
