There were 3 ferrymen, Fred Spry, Vic Ford and Jim Jellard (I think),who also did the maintenance side
Victor Ford is actually decended from the Evans Salcombe Boatbuilders! John Evans 1791-1866 was his GGGreat Grandad
on his Mum Florence's side, her Mum Mary Wills was daughter of Mary Evans and Samuel Wills (Blacksmith) Mary Evans was 1st daughter of John Evans and 3rd daughter of Elizabeth Evans nee Trinick widow of Johns brother Joseph. I got this information from my Dad Des Shepherd's cousin Norma nee Parsons who received it from Malcom Darch as a project on the Shipbuilding history of Salcombe.

Phil Chant wrote;Willen Jarvis who used to live at Bakerswell was also a long time ferryman and George Clements for a while.
