He was a 2nd Lieut. Of the Northumberland Fusiliers.When he enlisted his occupation was Architect and Surveyor assisting Mr.Perrott of Kingsbridge.
He joined the Artists' Rifles O.T.C 7 Sept 1915; obtained a commission 23 May 1916; served with the Expeditionary Force in France & flanders form 10 July 1916 and was killed in action at Arras on 9th April 1917. He was 25

In the 1901 census he was living with his parents at 53 Fore Street, Salcombe. His father was a chemist shopkeeper. In the 1911 census he is listed as an architect?s assistant, age 19, living at Farm Fern Villa, Devon Road, Salcombe, with his parents. Killed in action 9 April 1917 aged 25, probably in the First Battle of the Scarpe (9?14 April 1917) which was a phase in the Battle of Arras. Burial: Roclincourt Valley Cemetery, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France, Plot: II. E. 17.
