Nicholas Yeoman
-
Name Nicholas Yeoman - He lived in the village of Combe. He is also recorded as living at Innerhope as a labourer. Both places are in Devon. Nicholas? wife was Elizabeth Cornish of Sherford (a small village east of Dodbrooke). They were married on 14 August 1815 with her brother William and the parish clerk, Nicholas Rundle, as the witnesses. He is simply recorded as either a labourer or an agricultural labourer, and very little is known of his life. In the 1841 census they were living at Coombe with her father, Matthew, also living with them. In the 1851 census there is also shown a granddaughter Betsy aged 11 who must be the daughter (probably illegitimate) of either Mary (b.1820), or Anne (b.1823). He was buried on 18 September 1873, with her on 23 February 1888. As will be seen, with the early death of his eldest son, the departure to the new world and Australia of two further sons and the infant deaths of his remaining sons, this Branch only continues in the name of Yeoman in Australia and New Zealand.
