- Sharpitor (now Overbecks) was built in 1913 Mr & Mrs George Vereker.
In 1914 on hearing of the death of their youngest son Robert, they offered their home to the Red Cross Society in his memory to be used, rent free as a Voluntary Aid Hospital for the treatment of convalescent British and allied troops. "Sharpitor V.A Hospital" formally opened on 23 Aug 1915 and was run entirely by volunteers, including the Verekers and was supported by a constant flow of gifts, both financial and in kind from the local community.
