    • England Census: 1861 to 1891 Philip Edwin Chant was a boat builder.
      In 1901 and 1911 He was retired residing at 29 Fore St. Salcombe.
      The 1911 Census taken on the 2nd of April 1911 states that Philip Edwin and Elizabeth had been married for 54 years and had eight children. Three had sadly died prior to the Census.

      Kelly's directory 1893, 1910 & 1914 he was living at 30 Fore St. "Chant Philip Edwin & Son Yacht & Boat builders"
      Sidney Chant was also listed at 30 Fore St as a Painter.
      Kelly's directory 1923 (the year of Philip Edwin's Death)
      the boat yard is in Joseph's name.
